# AI credits

Learn how AI credits work, what's included with your plan, and how to get more.

With Bubble, you can always edit your app for free in the visual editor AI credits are only used when you work with Bubble AI features, like building and iterating with the Bubble AI Agent or generating images. Every plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits at no extra cost, and on any paid plan you can buy additional credits if you need more.

You won't be charged automatically: buying more credits is always your choice.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Why AI credits?** The Bubble AI Agent runs on the latest AI models, and every request has a real processing cost. AI credits cover that cost, so we can keep giving you access to new models as they're released.
{% endhint %}

## How AI credits work

There are two types of AI credits:

| Type | How you get them | When they refresh or expire | Roll over? |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------- | ---------------------- |
| Included AI credits | Come with your plan at no extra cost | Refresh on the first of every calendar month | No |
| Additional AI credits | Purchased separately | Expire six months after the date of purchase | Yes, until they expire |

Both types work the same way when you use Bubble AI features. The only difference is how you get them and how long they last. Credits are always used in the order they expire, starting with whichever expires soonest. Because included credits refresh every month, they're normally used before additional credits you've bought. This helps you get the most out of every credit before it expires.

#### Credits belong to an app

AI credits are tied to an app, not to an account. Each app has its own balance, based on that app's plan and any additional credits bought for it. Anyone who collaborates on an app uses that app's credits when they work with the Bubble AI Agent.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Agencies:** When you work on a client's app, you use the credits on that client's app. Your agency plan also includes its own monthly allowance of included credits.
{% endhint %}

### Included AI credits by plan

Every plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits. Web, mobile, and web and mobile plans all include the same amount, and so do monthly and annual billing.

<table><thead><tr><th width="232.25390625">Plan</th><th>Included AI credits</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Free</td><td>500 per month</td></tr><tr><td>Starter</td><td>1,000 per month</td></tr><tr><td>Growth</td><td>2,000 per month</td></tr><tr><td>Team</td><td>4,000 per month</td></tr><tr><td>Agency</td><td>1,000 per month</td></tr><tr><td>Enterprise and Dedicated</td><td>Custom. Contact your account manager for details.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Included credits refresh on the first of each calendar month, the same day your workload resets.

{% hint style="info" %}
More AI features may use credits over time. We'll update this article when they do.
{% endhint %}

### How many credits does a request use?

{% hint style="warning" %}

* Credits are calculated after a request runs, and can vary depending on what the request is.
* The number of credits an action uses can change over time, up or down, as the underlying technology and its costs change. Any change applies from the date we make it. It doesn't change the number of credits already in your app or their expiration dates, but it may change how far those credits go.
  {% endhint %}

There's no fixed number of credits per message. The Bubble AI Agent uses more credits for requests that take more work behind the scenes, and even a short prompt can involve a lot of work: the Agent has to read what you've already built, plan the change, and apply it without breaking other parts of your app. That's why a request like "Make this page work on mobile" can use more credits than its length suggests, since it touches many elements and workflows at once.

## How will I know if I need more AI credits?

Running out of AI credits doesn't trigger an automatic charge or plan upgrade, and you can keep building your app in the visual editor.

If you run out while the Bubble AI Agent is working on a request, the Agent stops and keeps the work it has already finished. It gives you a summary of what it completed and what it didn't, so you can pick up where it left off. You'll then see an out-of-credits banner in the editor, and the Agent chat is paused until your app has credits again.

{% hint style="info" %}
You need at least one credit to send a message to the Agent.
{% endhint %}

To keep using AI features, you can:

* Buy additional AI credits on any paid plan.
* Upgrade your plan for a larger monthly allowance.
* Wait for your included credits to refresh on the first of the month.

### Changing or canceling your plan

<table><thead><tr><th width="259.87890625">If you...</th><th>What happens to your credits</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Upgrade or downgrade</td><td>Your included credits change to the standard monthly allowance for your new plan. They aren't prorated. Additional credits you've bought stay in your app and keep their own expiration dates.</td></tr><tr><td>Downgrade to Free or cancel your plan</td><td>Your included credits change to the Free plan's allowance once the cancellation takes effect. Additional credits you've bought stay in your app until they expire.</td></tr><tr><td>Have your account suspended for non-payment</td><td>Any unused credits are forfeited.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Trials

If you're on the Free plan and use up your included credits, you can start a Starter trial. During the trial, your app gets Starter's included credits, and you can buy additional credits. If you don't continue on Starter after the trial, your included credits return to the Free plan's allowance.

### Tips for getting the most from your credits

* **Make quick tweaks in the visual editor.** Changing a color, moving an element, or editing text is often faster by hand, and editing in the visual editor doesn't use credits.
* **Plan before you prompt.** Decide what you want a feature to do before asking the Agent to build it. A clear request up front avoids follow-up prompts to correct course.
* **Keep requests focused.** Ask for one change at a time, and name the specific page, element, or workflow you want changed, rather than asking the Agent to review your whole app.
* **Build in small steps.** Add features one at a time and test as you go. It's easier to catch issues early than to fix a large change later.
* **Undo instead of re-prompting.** If a change isn't what you wanted, undo it in the editor rather than asking the Agent to reverse it.
* **Don't repeat the same fix.** If the Agent doesn't solve a bug after a try or two, describe what you're seeing in more detail instead of sending the same request again.

### AI credits and workload

AI credits and [workload units (WU)](/help-guides/workload.md) are separate, and each has its own allowance on your plan.

* **AI credits** measure your use of AI features while you build and edit your app, such as working with the Bubble AI Agent.
* **Workload** measures the server resources needed to host, run, and scale your app, including database operations, workflows, and page loads. See [What contributes to workload](/help-guides/workload/understanding-workload/what-contributes-to-workload.md) for the full list.

In short, AI credits cover building with AI, and workload covers running your app. Running out of one doesn't affect the other.

## How do I buy more AI credits?

When you're running low on AI credits, the Agent lets you know and gives you the option to upgrade your plan or buy more credits. You can also buy credits at any time:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open your plan settings

Go to the **Settings** tab and open the **My plan** section.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Find your AI credits

Scroll down to **AI credits**. Here you can see how many credits you have left and how many your plan includes each month.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Add more credits

## FAQ: AI credits

<details>

<summary>What are AI credits?</summary>

Many Bubble AI features use AI credits, including the Bubble AI Agent, page generation, and image generation. Every plan includes a monthly allowance that refreshes on the first of the month, and on any paid plan you can buy additional AI credits at any time. App generation doesn't use credits.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What uses AI credits, and how much?</summary>

The number of credits a request uses depends on its size and complexity. See [How many credits does a request use](#what-uses-ai-credits-and-how-much-1)? for typical ranges.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How are AI credits different from workload units?</summary>

AI credits measure your use of AI features while you build, like chatting with the [Bubble AI Agent](/help-guides/ai/bubble-ai-agent.md). Workload units measure the server processing needed to host, run, and scale your app. See AI credits and workload.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What are my options if I need more AI credits?</summary>

Once you use all your AI credits, AI features are paused until your app has credits again, but you can keep building in the visual editor. To keep using AI features, you can buy additional credits on any paid plan, upgrade your plan, or wait for your included credits to refresh on the first of the month.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do AI credits roll over?</summary>

Included credits don't roll over. They refresh on the first of each month. Additional credits you buy roll over from month to month until they expire, six months after purchase.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I buy more AI credits?</summary>

Yes, on any paid plan. [See How do I buy more AI credits?](#how-do-i-buy-more-ai-credits)

</details>

<details>

<summary>Who can use an app's credits, and who can buy more?</summary>

For now, any collaborator with editor access can use an app's credits. Only the app owner / admin can buy additional credits.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why did I use so many credits so quickly?</summary>

Requests that touch many pages, elements, or workflows take more work, even when the prompt itself is short. Repeating the same request, or asking the Agent to fix the same issue several times, also adds up. See [Tips for getting the most from your credits](#tips-for-getting-the-most-from-your-credits). If something still doesn't look right, [contact Support](https://bubble.io/contact).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Are credits shared across my apps?</summary>

Not at this time. Credits belong to each app, based on that app's plan and any additional credits bought for it, and they can't be moved or pooled across apps.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I limit how many credits each collaborator uses?</summary>

Not at this time. All collaborators draw from the app's shared balance.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I see how many credits each collaborator or request used?</summary>

Not yet. You can see your app's remaining balance and credit expiration dates in the Agent chat, and in the *My plan* section of the *Settings* tab.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do monthly and annual plans get different amounts?</summary>

No. Monthly and annual billing include the same number of included credits.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Will the number of credits an action uses change?</summary>

It may, up or down, as the underlying technology and its costs change. A change doesn't affect the credits already in your app or their expiration dates, but it may change how far those credits go.

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens to my credits if I change or cancel my plan?</summary>

Included credits change to your new plan's allowance, and additional credits stay in your app until they expire. See Changing or canceling your plan.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I use Bubble account credits to buy AI credits?</summary>

No. Bubble account credits can't be used to buy AI credits.
